Since January we had been trialing a Friday night session however it is with regret that with immediate effect this session will be cancelled.

The reason behind this are two fold, lack of swimmer numbers is one but the main reason is the pending restructure of Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) terms of hire.

KAL, whilst not putting up the pool hire charges are changing the times for Spenborough SC as to when peak and off peak periods operate. The effect of this is an increase in costs to the club.

The club is fighting for it’s survival. In 2014 we were approached by KAL who wanted to change our swim sessions as the days we hired were prime time slots for KAL to fill with swimming lessons. The club fully appreciated why KAL wanted to do this and reluctantly gave up these prime time slots as the terms of hire being proposed were going to increase costs to the club. At the same time KAL imposed a price increase in hire charges as well as introducing peak and off peak rates. At the time we negotiated with them to agree what the peak and off peak times would be.

With the introduction of these changes in hire charges and peak/off peak charging structure the costs increased in 2015 by 71% to hire the pool for four hours per week on a Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (Friday session is not included)

Earlier this year KAL approached us to advise that they were changing the agreement we had made with them and would change the times when peak and off peak periods operate. Their proposal means that for the four hours per week we hire the pool from KAL the costs of hire would increase by a further 55% , (if we continued and included Fridays the on going costs would be  totally unsustainable I hope you would agree)

The club has always been conscious of the cost to you as parents and have tried to absorb any previous price increases as much as possible. We are committed to keeping the prices the same for the remainder of 2017 however depending upon on the outcome it may be necessary to review our charging structure going into 2018. I can assure you that you will be given plenty of notice regarding any changes.
